Quote of the moment

One day I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs, and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine.

Get a shot, or quit your job?

Recently I read a story about two people who lived in Oregon. The wife was a dental hygienist (who made $80,000 a year), and the husband worked as a maintenance worker at a medical clinic. They loved their jobs; they enjoyed what they did. However, their work required them to get a COVID vaccine shot, or show proof that they received one. Shot, or lose their jobs. Very simple.

So, they quit. They drove to Florida in a motorhome, and are looking for work. Florida was chosen mainly because of the lax vaccine mandate. They had their reasons for what they did, but I can't help thinking of how my own life would go if I did that: quit my job, because I didn't want a shot. I don't make near $80,000 a year, but my job is still My Job. I have responsibilities and obligations, and turning down a shot and quitting my job over it just isn't sane to me.
People use religious/fear-based/warped logic/"I did my own research!" reasoning to tell you why they aren't going to get it, when in fact what they're doing is putting themselves and others at risk, because of what someone Orange said in 2020 when they decided to play at being smarter than they were.

Look, I don't care what someone's reasoning is, but it still comes down to what's best for myself and my family. I'll gladly take the shot if it means keeping a job, and taking steps to protect myself and my family.

Do what you want, but don't try to make yourself into a martyr over it.

Quote of the moment

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. (It is) nurtured by the false notion that Democracy means that 'My Ignorance' is just as good as Your Knowledge.

William....Shatner....In....Space!!

In case you missed it, William Shatner, aka Captain James T. Kirk, recently became the oldest person to go into space. So far, I think he's also the only 'civilian' who hasn't had to pay for the privilege to do so, being a guest of Jeff Bezos. Which is fine. I'd rather 'guests' get the chance to go, before wealthy people hog all of the trips. 😀

Personally, I wouldn't mind going myself, but I'd rather go a little further. In actual orbit would be good, maybe a trip around the moon. You know, ACTUAL space, not *this close*. But, I'll let other people work the bugs out before I get in line. After all, I want to be a tourist, not a space statistic.

Executive Privilege? Sorry, not yours...

Recently, you may have noticed that the January 6th committee on the attempted insurrection coup has issued subpoenas for info on possible behind the scenes actions regarding said attempt. And, some are saying that they will NOT abide by them, because a Former President said that he was invoking his 'right of Executive Privilege' to stop it. Unfortunately for those concerned, he can't.

You see, Executive Privilege is only viable when you're still President, and he isn't. "But", some might say, "How do you KNOW he's not President? Explain THAT!"
Simple....he's getting the Presidential pension, which former Presidents can receive once they are NO LONGER PRESIDENT. You can't get it if you're still in office. So, there's that...

I think the funniest thing about this is, these people are the kinds (and some might be the same ones) who refused to submit to subpoenas when he was still in office, because the Department of Justice (DoJ) was picked by him, so they would do his bidding. As such, the people served by the Dems just said, "No. What are you gonna do about it?" And, they couldn't do anything about it.
Now, thought, the DoJ doesn't work for the Former President, so they don't have that same protection. They can be arrested, detained, fines, etc. and he can't do anything about it. Not that it matters anyway, because people who were his allies in the past ended up twisting in the wind when they got into trouble, expecting him to step up and save them. He's powerless to prevent them from being served, and can't stop them from being jailed if they refuse.

Should be interesting to see how this plays out....

Quote of the moment

The one who plants trees, knowing that he will never sit in their shade, has at least started to understand the meaning of life.

Yep...Still here...
